Pelion Chestnut (Καστανιά Πηλίου)

Ιt is collected from the nectar and the honeydew of the Chestnut (Castanea sativa) in the virgin forests of Pelion from early June to July. It has a dark brown colour and an aroma of chestnut forests. It is not very sweet and it has a rich, velvety taste with a slightly bitter after-taste. Chestnut honey is fairly resistant to crystallisation (it takes about a year from harvest).

Chestnut honey is of high nutritional value because of its high density of pollen grains. It is rich in tannins and saponins, the two ingredients that fight spider veins, varicose veins, phlebitis, and generally improve our blood circulation. It helps the digestive system, increases mental clarity, has hydrating properties and is recommended for prostate problems and general diseases of the urinary system.

Specs : It is totally unheated, unpasteurized, unprocessed honey. Its mildly filtrated so as to keep small particles of pollen and wax, which enhance its taste and aroma. It comes from a single honey harvest, which means it is not a product of blending various honey batches.
