About us

Yiorgos Toliadis studied Agronomy at the
University of Athens and worked in the food industry for several years before studying for an MSc in Aquaculture Management at the University of Stirling, Scotland. Combining my background in food production with my knowledge of aquaculture, I then embarked on a career as a fish feed nutritionist. The beekeeping all started in 2009 when due to financial crisis approaching I was on the look out for alternatives in the work field.

I had always wanted to produce food using natural methods and I found that Apiculture (beekeeping) gave me the ideal chance to do this.

I now live with my English wife and our 5-year-old daughter in the village of Platani near the city of Patras in the Peloponnese. Most of our beekeeping activity is located around in the Panachaikon Mountain, which is where we live.

The area has an altitude of 400 - 600 m and is covered with vegetation typical of the Greek mountains. Olive, plane, pine and cypress trees dominate the landscape, while there are many nectar and pollen plants and herbs. Thyme, rosemary, eucalyptus, lavender, oregano and lime blossom, among others, contain precious essential oils in their nectar. The sun shines most of the time and the location has amazing sea views, which makes it wonderful to work with bees there!
